We are coming down to the to the wire when it comes to filing your 2016 Taxes. April 18th will be here before you know it. But before you dot the I’s and cross the T’s on your return, here is a top ten list of tax tips to ease last-minute stress.

1) Don’t panic, the IRS encourages taxpayers to take extra time to complete their tax returns if needed. If you have questions about how to do this, come and see us. We can clear up and questions you may have.

2) Don’t rush! If you rush, that may result in errors. If you have errors it takes even longer for the IRS to process your return.

3) The longer the IRS takes on your return, the longer it will take for you to get your refund.

4) Avoid the most common errors by filing electronically. Whatever your situation we are happy to help, but we especially encourage you to come in if you have a complicated situation. We are happy to help solve your tax issues!

5) Be sure to fill in all requested information clearly. If you are filing a paper tax return be sure your handwriting is easy to read and that all figures are accurate. Be sure to check only one filing status and the appropriate exemption boxes.

6) Review all figures, even if you are using e-file. The software isn’t perfect, while it catches and prevents many errors on e-file returns be sure to go back and check yourself to be sure. The same applies to errors on paper returns. When you come in and work with us we can catch many things software doesn’t!

7) Make sure the routing and account numbers are correct for where you want your return sent. While direct deposit of a federal tax refund into one, two, or even three accounts are convenient and allow the taxpayer access to their money faster, accidently sending money to the wrong account or the wrong bank can quickly derail your plans of getting your money quickly and easily.

8) Be sure to sign and date the return. Though this sound like an obvious one, a missing signature can cause a lot of trouble. Make sure you aren’t missing your spouse’s signature and date on the return if filing a joint return. The law requires both spouses must sign and date the return.

9) Be sure all necessary forms are attached. If you are filing by paper, attach the forms to the front of your return.

10) If you have back taxes that you haven’t paid, this is the year should come forward. At Tax Pros Plus we can help you negotiate your back taxes and settle your issues with the IRS. Don’t live in fear any longer.
